Baccarat is considered an elite and a ‘high-class’ game,
enjoyed by royals and princes and James Bond. Despite
its ‘rich’ image, this game is immensely
popular with people from all lifestyles. Of course,
before you begin playing, you must understand the
basics of this game.
In baccarat, you compete with the dealer and
not with the other players. The atmosphere of this
game is calm and relaxed. Baccarat is a game of
luck. The aim is to achieve a hand total that is
closest to nine. The players have to bet on the
hand they think will win the round or on a tie.
The player and the banker are given two cards
each. If the hand you bet on wins, then you earn
even money. Even money means that your profit is
equal to the money you bet.
If you bet on a tie and you win, then your winning
ratio is 8:1. This means that if you bet 6 dollars
and you win, then you are paid back your 6 dollars
and win 48 dollars more.
The value of face cards and ten number cards
is zero. An ace is valued as one. There is an important
scoring rule on baccarat. The first digit of the
two-digit total of your cards is dropped. Thus,
if you have a hand whose value is 14, then the
fist digit, i.e. 1 is dropped and your hand is
worth 4.
If the first two cards have a total of 8 or 9, then
the hand is a natural winner unless there is a tie
between two natural hands
